Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Preparing for Construction in the 21st Century

Abstract:

The main objective of this paper is to describe applications of knowledge-based systems for the improvement of planning and management efficiency at the early design stage, and to propose an integrated design and construction planning system which provides interactive cooperation among designers, engineers, and project managers. This paper also presents the results of research of several issues such as: representation and organization of knowledge and constraints, database management, hierarchical network of objecct-models which represent a building space model, building system models, construction method models, construction activity models, and construction site layout models.
