Abstract:

This research focuses on the use of CAD-KBSs integration as a tool for increasing constructability in design and accomplishing construction management functions. Beyond the drafting ability, engineering knowledge is added to the CAD system to aid in decision making for more constructable solutions. An object-oriented model is developed in a background of the CAD to capture and formalize project component data during the design stage via the use of the high-level menu-driven user interface. Several KBSs are under development to support construction management tasks using the data captured in the object-oriented model and experts knowledge in specific construction domains.
