Abstract:

An explicit formula is reported to express the volume of runoff resulting from a single rainfall event in terms of the catchment and rainfall characteristics. This formula is obtained by fitting an equation to the results of a physically-based mathematical model. Then an approximate probability density function is found for the runoff volume given the density functions of rainfall intensity and duration.
