Abstract:

The objective is development and use of a conjunctive water resource model as part of a hierarchical approach. In this case, this program is developed to determine the monthly allocation of groundwater and surface water after optimal annual rates are computed by an optimization model. This model is applied to a very large area (1,595 cells, 14,355 square miles) in Eastern Arkansas. This approach is necessary because on shorter time steps (monthly) available computer memory does not permit using monthly time steps within an optimization model for the study area. The results of the ALLOCATE model provide important information essential to better understanding and design of the water diversion structures.
