Abstract: Large irrigation systems constructed in the Asian region, deliver water over a wide area with varied agroclimatic conditions and cropping patterns. In order to evaluate the performance of these systems, they can be considered as a set of tertiary units. In this study, simulation models based on the water balance approach have been developed to evaluate the irrigation schedules and the relative performance of the tertiary units. Considering all the tertiary units in a system, the overall system performance can be evaluated.
