Abstract:

The Federal Department of Energy, Mines and Resources (Canada) has funded four separate investigations of syphon hydro technology. These study phases, which were carried out by Acres Hydraulic Laboratory in Niagara Falls, Ontario, have been identified as: Review of syphon applications and proposed testing plan; investigation of laboratory syphon installation; a conceptual syphon hydro intake; and laboratory investigation of syphon intake geometry, which undertook a series of laboratory tests to define the importance of intake shape in a syphon hydro system. This paper summarizesdsthe results of the most recent of these study phases.
