Abstract: The study of the width of the new artificial channel for the entrance of the port of Lisbon (in the Tagus estuary), which will allow the passage of fourth generation container ships, is presented. This study was made by means of the SIMNAV numerical model for ship manoeuvring in coastal waters, which calculates the time evolution of the ship's heading and position, taking into account the motions in the horizontal plane.
