Abstract:

In this paper, the small-amplitude surface waves produced by a piston-type nonlinear porous wavemaker in an infinitely and a semi-infinitely long channel are studied. Analytical solution of second order are obtained for free surface wave profiles. It is found that the 'wave-trapping' phenomenon will occur, when the distance between the wavemaker and the end-plate of the semi-infinite channel is a multiple of the half-wavelength of second order propagating surface waves. What is more, the influence of a dimensionless wave-effect parameter C and a dimensionless nonlinear porous-effect parameter Cs on the analytical results is also discussed.
