Abstract:

For brittle, transversely isotropic, composite materials we have developed an alternative Mode II interlaminar fracture toughness test (GIIc) that is encompassed within the Mode I experimental interlaminar fracture toughness fixture. For a 32-ply, unidirectional, graphite-epoxy laminate preliminary GIIc values determined from this modified End Notched Flexure Test (MENF) agree well with the traditional ENF test.
