Abstract:

As for real structures, initial geometric imperfections are inevitable and may have a destabilizing effect on the structures. The present research deals with the study of this imperfections and their direct influence in reducing the maximum carrying capacity of various types of steel frames. As such, a finite element model is developed to predict the collapse loads of these frames. The model is used to investigate the effect of initial imperfections on the ultimate capacity of steel frames.
