Abstract:

A local-global methodology is presented to treat the problems of localized collapse of shells of revolution. The strategy consists of employing two dimensional general shell elements in the nonlinear local one and axisymmetric shell elements elsewhere. The link between the two zones is achieved through appropriate transformations. The solution of the nonlinear equations follows an incremental/iterative scheme along with a path following algorithm. Examples are presented to prove the validity of this approach.
