Abstract:

A passive liquid-motivated control system is proposed to suppress and reduce the lateral drift of high-rise buildings. The vibration reduction mechanism relies on liquid motion to alter the natural frequency of the system and to augment the structural damping. The objective of this paper are to validate the concept experimentally and to check its effectiveness in the reduction of the lateral drift.
