Abstract: The High Level Waste Program requires safe disposal of nuclear waste in a geologic medium for thousands of years. Traditionally, the nuclear industry relies heavily on engineered items. The Mined Geologic Disposal System (MGDS) Program relies equally, if not more, on the natural barriers for containment of radionuclides. As a consequence, a stringent quality assurance (QA) program must be applied to geologic and scientific site suitability investigations.
