Abstract:

Ceramic like wastes such as incinerated ash, thermal insulator, concrete, and soil and sand mostly being composed of a dielectric material, can be directly melted by microwave irradiation. Kobe Steel Ltd has been developed the treatment technology for the radioactive wastes using the microwave. In this paper, the outline of a large scale microwave melter using the frequency of 915 MHz, the hot test using radio isotope tracers for the ?, ?-contaminated incinerator ash and the cold test for the liquid sludge to apply the microwave treatment technology will be introduced.
