Abstract: EPA is in the process of developing standards for the disposal of high-level and transuranic wastes. This development process is in response to a Court order that remanded standards that were promulgated in 1985. This paper describes the basic standards that were developed in 1985, the basis of the court's remand, and technical issues that are being pursued as a part of the repromulgation effort.
