Abstract:

Engineers and scientists at the Center for Advanced Decision Support for Water and Environmental Systems (CADSWES) are developing software to support water resource and environmental decision making. These advanced decision support systems bring high-resolution graphics, artificial intelligence and geographical information systems together on a common platform: the engineering workstation. Two systems developed by CADSWES are already being used by government planners and managers. One, an environmental application at the regional level, focuses on pollution control in the Santa Ana River basin. The other supports decision makers and engineers who manage the Colorado River system, one of the nation's most critical resources. These systems allow planners to explore more options and has improved communication between engineers and planners.
