Abstract:

This proceedings consists of 70 papers presented at the National Conference on Irrigation and Drainage sponsored by the Irrigation and Drainage Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers held in Durango, Colorado, July 11-13, 1990. The topic of the papers addressed current issues in irrigation and drainage in the United States and foreign countries. Some of the main topics were 1) The conjunctive use of ground water and surface water, 2) estimation of crop consumptive use, 3) rehabilitation of irrigation facilities, 4) use of computers in water management, 5) quality of surface water and groundwater, 6) management of pesticide and fertilizer, and 7) design and construction of water wells. These broad topics included such subjects as 1) The calibration of neutron meters, 2) upgrading of water distribution systems, 3) stream standards for toxics, 4) evaluation of form irrigation, 5) potential of groundwater pollution. This proceedings will help the engineer to better understand the critical issues related to the utilization of limited water supplies in the United States and around the world.
