Abstract:

As part of the Strategic Highway Research Program, an effort has been made to review research literature which can be used to relate asphalt properties to pavement performance. This report briefly summarizes some of the conclusions resulting from this review. A major conclusion was a confirmation that asphalt source, and related asphalt properties, do influence pavement performance. Problems in quantifying specific relationships are related to absence of standard procedures to measure asphalt properties and pavement performance.
