Abstract:

A physical model study was performed at California State University, Long Beach to investigate the location of critical depth within bridge piers in supercritical lined channels. This paper presents results from a series of generic model tests which were carried out specifically to develop design relationship that could be used to predict the location of critical depth within the piers. In addition, observation regarding the stability of flow through long piers are presented.
