Abstract:

Long term sediment transport trends may be evaluated using a sediment histogram generator program that was written for microcomputers. Flows can be extracted directly from a compact disc in ASCII format and input directly into the histogram generator program. The only input requirement is the appropriate sediment rating curve. An entire simulation can be made for any period of record or number of streamflows in several minutes. This paper includes a case history application on the Arkansas River in Oklahoma. The sediment histogram generator (SWHG) can be used for reconnaissance level analytical studies or as originally developed, used to develop input into the Corps of Engineers' HEC-6, 'Sediment Transport in Rivers and Reservoirs,' model.
