The Sorry State of Flood Hydrology in the Arid Southwest

Abstract:

Flood hydrology for urban areas of the arid and semiarid Southwest is in a sorry state. It is based in large part on precomputer manual methods. The state-of-the-art should move into the 20th century before the 21st century is upon us. This paper discusses design storm development, infiltration estimates, model calibration, rainfall distribution, unit hydrograph analysis, and other aspects of the subject.
