Abstract:

A two-dimensional, flood routing model FLO-2D has been developed to route water and mudflows over unconfined surfaces. It predicts flow velocities and depths at discrete points for channel or overland flow. The model accounts for the effects of buildings or other obstructions that limit storage and constrict flow widths. Mudflow hydraulics which vary spatially and temporally on alluvial fans are simulated as a function of sediment concentration.
