Abstract:

Numerous numerical models of circulation and transport for estuarine and coastal waters have been developed. A variety of numerical techniques are used by these numerical models. This paper considers various numerical aspects of estuarine and coastal modeling. In particular, the following subjects are discussed in the paper: the selection of horizontal grid, the selection of vertical grid, the derivation of governing equations in curvilinear-grid coordinates, and the use of higher-order advective schemes. Recent results of Chesapeake Bay modeling are used to illustrate the major points.
