Abstract:

An approach is presented for linking groundwater simulation models with nonlinear optimization algorithms. The approach involves the solution of a reduced optimization model in which the simulation model equations are included implicitly in the constraint set. The reduced model is much smaller than an equivalent formulation that includes the simulator equations explicitly, and thus should be applicable to large-scale problems.
