Abstract:

Reservoir storage capacity is allocated to various purposes prior to project construction. However, changing needs and conditions may warrant later conversion of storage capacity from one purpose to another. A simulation modeling strategy for evaluating potentialities for permanent and seasonal storage reallocations and other related strategies is presented in the paper. Application of the modeling and analysis approach to a system to twelve reservoirs in the Brazos River Basin is discussed. The study focused primarily on increasing water supply yields while minimizing impacts on other purposes.
