Abstract:

Opinions and comments from randomly selected 1837 general public and 454 professionals are compiled and analyzed to obtain their concerns on nuclear waste issues in Taiwan. Results indicate that most general public do not recognize the problems related to nuclear waste and most professionals have negative image on nuclear waste management as well as any future development. A well-planned, all-out public education and promotion program is therefore required in order to reduce effectively the social impact when the authorities handle high-level radioactive waste in near future.
