Abstract:

As a result of 3-D computer modeling, the availability of geometric data in an electronic form makes possible the use of computers for purely construction activities in ways that were impossible or impractical before. The use of 3-D computer models for construction planning, simulation and training has tremendous potential for reducing construction costs and schedules. This paper describes some of the software capabilities available today, in particular the real-time simulation of construction operations.
