Abstract:

The paper discusses maintenance the three types of subway construction in the Bag Area Rapid Transit system: cut and cover, driven tunnel, and prefabricated subaqueous railroad tube. Specialized on-track/off-track equipment has been designed for use in the tunnel maintenance program. This equipment consists of hi-rail jumbo trucks, welding trucks, vacuum type, and crew trucks. The maintenance division performs all of the routine maintenance such as, water control chemical grouting, corrosion control, re-torquing liner plate bolts, maintenance of all wayside reference points mile post markers, tunnel wash down, painting, etc. One of the most demanding maintenance requirements is water control and corrosion problems in ring section design created by electrolysis.
