Abstract:

Inside the granddaddy of domed stadiums, the Houston Astrodome, 10,000 new seats and 72 new suites were hung from a strengthened structure. Using a variety of working-with-what-we've-got structural engineering solutions, the first 1,200 seats and 36 suites were installed behind home plate in March and April 1988. Last month, the remaining seats and suites were placed behind the center field fences. Each construction phase was scheduled around baseball season, football season, livestock shows and tractor pulls. Now, all 360 deg. of the Astrodome have four balconies above the rotating field level seats.
