Abstract:

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) owns and operates 71 hydroelectric power projects in Northern and Central California. With 115 dams in its system, PG&E is the largest private dam owner in the United States and as such has a large and ongoing responsibility for ensuring the safety of its dams. This paper discusses some of the regulatory, operational and technical aspects of the safety evaluation process for PG&E dams.
