Abstract:

The accuracy of water level predictions downstream of the dam is dependent upon the breach evaluation, the correct estimation of the roughness coefficients and when the flood wave reaches the downstream part of the valley on the estuary zone, the tidal effect. Therefore, the hydraulic boundary conditions to be imposed downstream of the discretized valley must be choosen very carefully to ensure the validity of the results at all stages of the dambreak flood wave. This presentation proposes a computational approach to minimize error induced by tide induded boundary conditions.
