Abstract:

This study experimentally investigated the effect of a permeable bed for steady, laminar and smooth turbulent free surface flow on the Darcy-Weisbach friction factor. Flow velocities and depths were varied over ranges corresponding to overland flow conditions. Empirical equations were obtained to predict the friction factor as functions of flow and bed parameters.
