Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Sediment Transport Modeling

Abstract:

Certain aspects of the selection of equations to use in the calculation of sediment transport in streams are examined in this paper. The use of a critical discharge is examined and problems associated with the selection of an empirical equation fit to measured data are also examined with special emphasis on gravel bed rivers. The use of a simple power equation is appropriate in many situations, but not in all. Sometimes the use of a critical discharge will be needed as will the use of simulation models.
