Abstract: Hydrologic forecast systems generally consist of several components which include computer hardware and software to perform data handling functions and enable users to calibrate hydrologic models and use the models to generate forecasts. The functional components of a forecast system are described, using the National Weather Service River Forecast System as an example. This paper focuses on the transfer of technology that must occur among the various types of individuals contributing to the research, design, coding, testing, implementation and support of a hydrologic forecast system.
