Abstract:

Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS) has developed a software measurement system to support the ANSI standards X3.102 and X3.141. This system is being used to evaluate data communication system performance over wide area networks. After a short test of a few minutes, a preliminary characterization of the system parameters may be computed. Of the 17 primary parameters defined by the standard, this characterization includes 9 that relate to bit and block transfer characteristics. A second test with multiple accesses and disconnections would provide information about the remaining eight parameters that relate to access and disengagement.
