Abstract:

The seventy-eight papers included in this volume cover the fifteen sessions generally associated with steel structures presented at the Seventh Annual Structures Congress held on May 1-5, 1989 in San Francisco, California. One session covered applications of both cable and membrane tension structures. Two sessions covered techniques for assessing the reliability and new concepts in design of transmission line structures. There were three sessions on stability dealing with considerations in design, analysis and structural optimization, and problems in steel structures. Another session covered bridge and tension structure aesthetics. The session on member design included such topics as bracing members, compression members, steel connections in seismic design and effects of fabrication on deformation of steel beams. Finally, the sessions on applications included one each on latticed structures, cold-formed steel structures, tubular construction and steel buildings.
