Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastlines of Brazil

Abstract:

The Ocean Engineering Department of COPPE/UFRJ started in early 1988 a project called 'Littoral Rio', in order to make an assessment of coastal engineering problems along the coastline of Rio de Janeiro. Consequently, those research needs, which might contribute towards the solution of existing problems and the prevention of new ones, could be better established. This is a two-year long project whose general description is presented. Also discussed are the problems found in different points of the coast, possible remedial measures and studies which have been suggested to municipalities, State agencies, or are currently in progress as academic research.
