Uncertainties in Offshore Axial Pile Capacity

by Wilson H. Tang, Univ of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Foundation Engineering: Current Principles and Practices

Abstract:

The overall bias and error associated with the API recommended procedures and other popular methods for offshore pile design are evaluated. The paper considers single axial friction piles driven in clay. Significant parameters affecting axial pile capacity are identified, followed by examinations of their respective variation and the sensitivity of pile capacity to change in those parameters. Appropriate probability models are introduced to analyze and combine the uncertainty from each source.
