Abstract:

This paper describes the effect of modeling of the inelastic pier behavior on the seismic response of three reinforced concrete bridges. Each bridge was analyzed twice once using a yield surface elasto-plastic pier element and once using a degrading five-spring hysteretic element (5-SE). It is shown that bridge response is sensitive to the hysteresis model, and that no consistent trend can be identified in terms of the correlation between response from the two models.
