Containment Model — Test Program and Results

by Daniel S. Horschel, Sandia Natl Lab, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Structural Design, Analysis and Testing

Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) completed the testing of a 1:6-scale containment building for a Light Water Reactor (LWR) in July 1987. The containment building was made of reinforced concrete and had many of the features found in full-size containments. Testing consisted of a structural integrity test, an integrated leak rate test, and concluded with an overpressurization test of the structure. Highlights of the results from the overpressurization of the containment model are presented.

Subject Headings: Nuclear reactors | Reinforced concrete | Concrete construction | Material tests | Power plants | Structural models | Leakage | Laboratory tests
