Weathering Steel Bridges ? State of the Art

by Roger H. Wildt, Bethlehem Steel Corp, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Structural Design, Analysis and Testing

Abstract:

State of the art dissertations on materials that have been in commercial use for over a century are not likely to illustrate major new and innovative breakthroughs. Instead, the state of the art of a mature product tends to dwell on a thorough understanding of its properties over a wide range of applications and those design refinements that take advantage of that greater depth of knowledge. Three issues are discussed in this paper: weathering steels and their maintenance for improved performance, Autostress Design and the formation of interactive councils within which all parties to the steel bridge design and construction process can meet to air mutual new ideas and concerns.
