Abstract:

A procedure for the shape optimization of a column for prescribed buckling load is developed. The procedure uses a new analysis technique that enables the formulation of the optimization problem with a small number of design variables. The procedure is flexible and allows to incorporate other constraints and boundary conditions. Two examples are solved to demonstrate the accuracy and flexibility of the new method.
