Abstract:

A linear finite element analysis was conducted to study the stress distribution in the web and the flange when the beam is subjected to a patch load applied in the plane of the web or applied with an eccentricity with respect to the plane of the web. The results from this analysis were compared with the test results at the initial stages of loading before large displacements or material yielding occurred. The agreement between the experimental and analytical results was satisfactory.
