Abstract:

Flexible offshore systems can be analyzed by a number of different techniques. The techniques described herein fall in the general category of finite element methods. Special cable elements and contact nodes are discussed. A static finite element analysis requires a solution strategy that handles ill-conditioned cases. It is shown how ill-conditioning can be removed and how many practical problems involving flexible offshore systems can be solved.
