Abstract:

Traffic engineers of the 21st century will have a number of new tools to attack traffic congestion. High technology solutions will begin to emerge as means of increasing the effectiveness of our existing infrastructure. The systems will incorporate on-street, in-vehicle and control center electronics to provide decision making capability to the motorist and real time operational capability to the traffic engineer. This technology is developing rapidly and not a moment too soon.
