Abstract:

Due to standardization, to date most containers basically fit the U.S. highway environment, which was the entire original intent of intermodal transport. The paper presentes the results of a survey made of some of the for-hire motor carriers who provide most of the urban-suburban container transport. Based on the authors analysis of the survey results, fire regulatory-operational strategies are offered to deal with the problems indicated.
