Abstract:

A simple procedure is proposed to compute scour depth on an alluvial bed having graded materials under flow conditions which produce armor layer at the bed surface. The procedure is based on the critical shear stress given by the Shields Curve and the bed material size distribution. The procedure is validated at the W.C. Little and P.G. Mayer's experimental flume and at the downstream of Gavins Point Dam in the Missouri River.
