Abstract:

This paper discusses Chapter 5, Reservoir Sedimentation, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Engineering Manual (EM) on Sedimentation Engineering, EM 1110-2-4000. The chapter presents the philosophy for measuring the impact of a reservoir on stream morphology, to identify potential sedimentation problems caused by the reservoir, to associate those problems with project purposes, and to propose approaches for analyzing them. Many of the problems are simply addressed in the EM so that the reader is aware of the potential impacts on the project. Methods and techniques for analyses mentioned in the EM are properly referenced and only brief descriptions are given.
