Abstract:

The papers in this book examine and provide illustrations for civil engineering opportunities in resolving apparent conflicts between needs for energy generation and environmental acceptability. Nuclear facilities decommissioning is reviewed regarding risk assessment in nuclear and hazardous waste plants and environmental effects; several case studies are presented. Current trends in resource recovery technology are assessed. Municipal energy recovery systems are described.
