Abstract: This paper deals with the seismic counter-measures for mitigating hazards from earthquake damages to buried water and sewer pipelines. To achieve an overall program for the earthquake hazards mitigation, this paper describes the earthquake damage and response behavior of buried pipelines, available methods for pre-earthquake preparation, criteria and techniques for emergency (quick) survey and repair and thorough survey and complete restoration of the system as well as retrofitting the existing non-seismic designed pipelines.
